The University of Tulsa (TU) announced on Tuesday that it will offer two scholarships to Afghan refugees, following the recent takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban. “TU has long been one of our nation’s most international universities, welcoming students from more than 60 countries to the heartland,” said President Brad Carson in a news release from the university. “At a time when these brave young people need us most, we are opening our doors to provide a safe place to learn and grow.” The TU scholarships are available immediately to undergraduate students. They will cover the total cost of attendance at the university for up to four years. The new funding will supplement rather than replace any of the millions of dollars in institutional support that the university already provides to students who receive merit- and need-based aid.
